How Good Is AMD Ryzen 7 3700x For Gaming?
As I said before, 2 years ago Ryzen 7 3700x was one of the best processors for gaming. Since then, new processors arrived and the CPU market has changed, but is this processor still a good option when we speak about gaming?
My expectations are big for this CPU, I even owned this CPU personally last year, but unfortunately, I switched to a newer Ryzen CPU.
In order to test this processor the best way, I paired it with High-End (RTX 2070), Mid-Range (GTX 1660 Ti), and budget GPU (GTX 1650), so you can compare these results with the one that you plan to pair with Ryzen 7 3700x.
Let’s jump into some gaming!
How Good Is AMD Ryzen 7 3700x For Gaming When Paired With A High-End Graphics Card?
For all of you guys that are deciding to buy this processor and have a strong GPU, I tested this processor in both 1440p and 1080p paired together with Nvidia RTX 2070.
The reason I didn’t test 4k resolution is quite simple. In 4k Resolution, the processor isn’t a big factor, at least for now. If you want to test the processor, 1080p resolution is the best way to do that.
Nvidia RTX 2070 and Ryzen 7 3700x – Test in 1080p
Firstly, I tested the Ryzen 7 3700x and RTX 2070 in 1080p resolution and the results are good as I expected.
As you can see in the table below, these two handled well any game I tested even on the Highest possible settings for most games.
These results are more than good, even tho I didn’t test the most demanding games out there.
The lowest fps was in the ARK survival since this game has really good graphics, but considering that I played it on Epic settings and still had over 70 fps, I came to the conclusion that you won’t have problems running any game in 1080p on Highest settings with Ryzen 7 3700x and a strong GPU.
specs: Ryzen 7 3700x, RTX 2070, 16Gb DDR4, 1TB SSD - res:1080p | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |

PUBG (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 142 fps | 84 fps |
Fortnite (Competitive settings - 1080p) | 280 fps | 171 fps |
ARK Survival (Epic settings - 1080p) | 72 fps | 60 fps |
Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 108 fps | 95 fps |
The Witcher 3 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 117 fps | 77 fps |
Apex Legends (Insane settings - 1080p) | 135 fps | 90 fps |
Csgo (Very High settings - 1080p) | 295 fps | 151 fps |
Greed Fall (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 129 fps | 92 fps |

Nvidia RTX 2070 and Ryzen 7 3700x – Test in 1440p
For all of you that want to play games in resolutions higher than 1080p, I tested this processor in 1440p with RTX 2070 and I have results in the table below.
Since 4k isn’t a good test for CPU because the fps mostly depend on the graphics card, I played all games that I tested in 1080p and also in 2k resolution.
I had the same case with fps as in the 1080p testing. The only two games that are under 60 fps are ARK Survival and Watch Dogs 2.
Although in these two games Ryzen 7 3700x and RTX 2070 didn’t get past 60 fps on Average, you need to have in mind that all graphic settings were on the Highest possible, except Fortnite which was on Competitive settings.
In all other games, I easily passed the 60 fps line.
My conclusion is that 1440p is more than playable with Ryzen 7 3700x and a GPU like RTX 2070.
specs: Ryzen 7 3700x, RTX 2070, 16Gb DDR4, 1TB SSD - res:1440p | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |

Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings – 1440p) | 91 fps | 79 fps |
The Witcher 3 (Ultra settings – 1440p) | 98 fps | 72 fps |
Apex Legends (Insane settings – 1080p) | 120 fps | 73 fps |
Csgo (Very High settings – 1440p) | 265 fps | 132 fps |
Greed Fall (Ultra settings – 1440p) | 83 fps | 64 fps |
Watch Dogs 2 (Ultra settings – 1440p) | 59 fps | 51 fps |
Rage 2 (Ultra settings – 1440p) | 85 fps | 71 fps |
How Good Is AMD Ryzen 7 3700x For Gaming When Paired With A Mid-Range Graphics Card?
Since the GPU market is in a very bad position and graphics card prices are more than usual, a big majority of PC users are deciding to go with a Mid-Range graphics card.
Because of that, I tested Ryzen 7 3700x with Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti, one of the best GPUs in the middle class. Since I already tested this graphics card in one of my posts, I knew what to expect from these two together.
For this Graphics card and CPU combo, I only tested them in 1080p, since 2k and 4k are more demanding for your GPU.
Let’s see the results!
Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti and Ryzen 7 3700x – Test in 1080p
As expected this Processor once again showed how good it actually is. Even with a graphics card that isn’t the strongest GPU on the market, this processor performed great.
Don’t get me wrong, Nvidia GTx 1660 Ti is a great graphics card, but I didn’t expect this processor and graphics card to be this good together.
As you can see in the table below, any game is more than playable in 1080p, even on the Highest Graphics settings.
The only game that didn’t cross the 60 fps line was AC Odyssey, which is totally ok since this game is one of the most demanding out there.
In other games, these two performed very well. You can even expect to play eSports games on refresh rates higher than 60Hz.

How Good Is AMD Ryzen 7 3700x For Gaming When Paired With A Budget Graphics Card?
For the last test, I wanted to try this processor with a budget graphics card.
As I said before, most people are either buying mid-range GPUs or deciding to put in a Budget GPU and upgrade in the Future.
For this test, I tested Ryzen 7 3700x with one of the best budget graphics cards which are unfortunately also expensive at the moment – Nvidia GTX 1650 4Gb.
As you may expect, this GPU can’t handle 1440p and 4k, so I tried it only in 1080p. Let’s jump into some gaming again.
Nvidia GTX 1650 and Ryzen 7 3700x – Test in 1080p
While these results that you can see in the table below aren’t the best, consider that there are some demanding games that even better graphics cards cannot handle well since the lack of optimization.
Although I got only 40 fps on average in Cyberpunk 2077, it was a surprisingly well experience, but if you don’t like framerates below 60, you can either try to reduce the graphics settings or avoid this game with this GPU.
In most other games average fps was around 60 fps, which is for most people more than enough. Reducing the graphics settings would help, but this was still a good gaming experience even on this fps.
specs: Ryzen 7 3700x, GTX 1650, 16Gb DDR4, 1TB SSD – res:1080p | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |

Far cry 5 | 53 fps | 44 fps |
Shadow of war | 61 fps | 35 fps |
Need for speed heat | 47 fps | 39 fps |
Battlefield 5 | 53 fps | 42 fps |
The Witcher 3 | 47 fps | 36 fps |
