How Good Is Nvidia RTX 2070? GPU Revisit

Topic Introduction

Less than 4 years ago, Nvidia released their brand new RTX graphics cards. Since there were some really good GPUs to choose from and cards like Nvidia RTX 2080 or Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti were better and more powerful, Nvidia RTX 2070 was the one that most people wanted to buy because it was the best value for the money back in the day.

Four years later, this Graphics card is still one of the best options for middle to high-end gaming. I have this GPU in my studio and I will try to give you all the important information that you should have in one place.

How Good Is Nvidia RTX 2070? Short Topic Answer

Nvidia RTX 2070 is still one of the best graphics cards on the market for the majority of users. The reason for that is because this GPU is giving insane value and the opportunity to play video games in 1440p without problems for less money than you would spend with some other graphics card.

There is a lot more information you should consider before deciding whether you should buy this GPU or keep using it, and I will try to provide them for you in the post below. Stay with me…

How Good Is Nvidia RTX 2070 For Gaming?

Nvidia RTX 2070 is still an insane graphics card when it comes to gaming. With 8GB of DDR6 VRAM, this GPU is still capable of gaming in 1080p and 1440p without any problems. Even 4k gaming is possible if you adjust your settings the right way. For the best performance pair this GPU with a good CPU.

In the paragraphs below, I will test Nvidia RTX 2070 in all 3 resolutions. Since We want to see the maximum from this CPU, I will pair it with the powerful Intel Core I9 9900k.

How Good Is Nvidia RTX 2070 For Gaming in 1080p?

The First Benchmark that I did with Nvidia RTX 2070 was of course in the 1080p. Since 1080p is a resolution where you need both graphics card and processor to perform well in order to get good results, I will pair RTX 2070 with the Intel I9 9900k.

I will test them together in 5 popular video games, and in every one of them, the graphics details will be increased in order to load the GPU even more.

As you can see in the table below, Nvidia RTX 2070 easily averaged more than 100 fps in 3 out of 5 games, and the other 2 games were very close to that number too. Considering that these games were played on Ultra or Very High settings, these results are more than good.

If you have a suitable monitor, gaming at a higher refresh rate is more than possible, since you can always adjust your settings and get much more fps in every game.

Let’s take a look at the table below.

Specs: Nvidia RTX 2070, Intel Core I9 9900k, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD AVERAGE FPS 1% LOW FPS
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings - 1080p) 119 fps 73 fps
AC Odyssey (Very High settings - 1080p) 91 fps 61 fps
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider (Ultra settings - 1080p) 96 fps 57 fps
GTA 5 (Very High settings - 1080p) 116 fps 74 fps
Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings - 1080p) 107 fps 66 fps

How Good Is Nvidia RTX 2070 For Gaming in 1440p?

For the second test, I once again paired Nvidia RTX 2070 with the Intel I9 9900k but this time I tested them in the 1440p resolution. It’s well known that most people choose to play in 2k since it is a perfect mixture with both the performance you will get and the video quality of the games.

Since Nvidia RTX 2070 is very popular when it comes to gaming in 2k, I tested the same 5 games on the same graphics details as in the 1080p test, so you can clearly see the difference.

If you take a look at the table below, you can see that RTX 2070 did a very good job in all games that I tested. Every game averaged more than 60 fps, which is very good for 1440p and increased settings.

If you want to get more fps, you can lower the graphics details and you can even hit 144 or 240 fps, so you can play at the higher refresh rate.

Take a look at the table below and compare the results to the 1080p ones.

Specs: Nvidia RTX 2070, Intel Core I9 9900k, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD AVERAGE FPS 1% LOW FPS
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings - 1440p) 87 fps 53 fps
AC Odyssey (Very High settings - 1440p) 69 fps 51 fps
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider (Ultra settings - 1440p) 65 fps 49 fps
GTA 5 (Very High settings - 1440p) 84 fps 56 fps
Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings - 1440p) 83 fps 52 fps

How Good Is Nvidia RTX 2070 For Gaming in 4k?

The last benchmark was done in the 4k resolution. Although the RTX 2070 isn’t the best possible graphics card to use if your priority is only 4k gaming, this GPU can still do a very good job.

Once again, I paired RTX 2070 with I9 9900k, but in this resolution, the graphics card is the one with the most job and the CPU is there only for support.

As you can see in the table below, once again I tested this GPU in the same 5 games and I keep the increased settings so you can see the fps difference between the resolutions.

Unfortunately, every game that I played averaged less than 60 fps, but the experience that I got was much better than on paper. Have in mind that 50 fps at 4k Ultra is much better than 50 fps in 1080p resolution.

Almost every game felt smooth and fluid. For the best results, you should decrease the graphics details to 4k Low or Medium, and your fps will increase over 60 fps most of the time.

Take a look at the table below.

Specs: Nvidia RTX 2070, Intel Core I9 9900k, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD AVERAGE FPS 1% LOW FPS
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings - 4k) 50 fps 41 fps
AC Odyssey (Very High settings - 4k) 45 fps 37 fps
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider (Ultra settings - 4k) 37 fps 33 fps
GTA 5 (Very High settings - 4k ) 43 fps 35 fps
Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings - 4k) 51 ps 40 fps
