Introduction

It has been almost 2 years since AMD released its Ryzen 5000 Series. Although we all know that these processors are still one of the best on the market, there are a lot of unanswered questions about them.

Today, I will concentrate on one processor from Ryzen 5000 series and that is AMD Ryzen 7 5800x.

If you want to know exactly how good this processor is in all categories that matter the most, you should keep reading this post to the end.

Let’s start!

Is AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Good For Gaming? Short Topic Answer

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x is more than good when it comes to video gaming. With a fast chip and 8 cores/16 threads, this CPU will absolutely perform phenomenally in whatever game you test it. Have in mind that you will also need a graphics card good enough too, so you won’t have any bottleneck.

Is AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Good For Video Gaming? Benchmarks

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x is one of the best processors for the money it costs in 2022. Although there are some problems here and there, this 8-core 16-threads CPU is more than powerful. If you pair it with a GPU that can maintain the power of this CPU, you will have a build that is capable of any task.

In the next paragraphs, I will try to test this Processor in both 1080p and 1440p resolutions to get you the best image of how good this CPU is in gaming.

Since I will test this CPU with Nvidia RTX 3060 in these two resolutions, there is no point in the 4k benchmark since all the work would be done by RTX 3060 itself.

Is AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Good in 1080p Gaming?

The first test was done in the most popular resolution and the one that is the best for testing the processors. In 1080p, the CPU actually needs to show its power unlike in higher resolutions.

As you can see I tried 5 different popular titles and every one of them was on Ultra graphics settings.

As expected, every one of them averaged more than 60 fps, even tho they are hard-to-run games mostly. The game that amazed me the most is Cyberpunk 2077, which is known as the game which is poorly optimized.

Ryzen 7 5800x and RTX 3060 managed to get the average fps to 102, which is more than good for most people.

If you have a monitor with a higher refresh rate, you can easily achieve 144 Hz or 240 Hz gaming with this CPU and a strong graphics card.

Take a look at the table yourself!

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x, 16GB DDR4 3200 MHZ, Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB, 1TB SSD AVERAGE FPS 1% LOW FPS
Red Dead Redemption (Ultra settings - 1080p) 73 fps 60 fps
Assassin's Creed Valhalla (Ultra settings - 1080p) 78 fps 65 fps
Battlefield V (Ultra settings - 1080p) 141 fps 82 fps
Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra settings - 1080p) 102 fps 68 fps
PUBG (Ultra settings - 1080p) 147 fps 90 fps

Is AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Good in 1440p Gaming?

The second test that I did was gaming in 1440p. Although the GPU has a big task in this resolution, you still need good CPU support to achieve good results.

As expected, Ryzen 7 5800x once again showed the power it has. In the same 5 games on the Ultra settings, this CPU-GPU combo gave me more than a good gaming experience.

Once again, higher refresh rate monitors can definitely be used, since you can easily get 144 or 240 fps in most games if you adjust your game graphics details.

Take a look at the table.

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x, 32GB DDR4 3200 MHZ, Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB, 1TB SSD AVERAGE FPS 1% LOW FPS
Red Dead Redemption (Ultra settings - 1440p) 57 fps 46 fps
Assassin's Creed Valhalla (Ultra settings - 1440p) 60 fps 42 fps
Battlefield V (Ultra settings - 1440p) 105 fps 65 fps
Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra settings - 1440p) 66 fps 50 fps
PUBG (Ultra settings - 1440p) 96 fps 73 fps

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x VS Intel Core I7 10700k

In order to give you the best image of how good this processor actually is, I wanted to compare it with an Intel processor which has a similar strength as the Ryzen 7 5800x itself.

I tried both Ryzen 7 5800x and Intel I7 10700k, which also have 8 cores and 16 threads, in 8 popular games on increased graphics details paired with an Nvidia RTX 3080 to get the best results possible.

As you can see, almost every game that I benchmarked these two was on the highest possible graphics settings. Although that isn’t the best when it comes to testing the power of the processors, I wanted to give you a real image.

You may see that these two averaged almost the same fps in every game that I tested. Although in some games i7 10700k had higher average fps, in the majority of them Ryzen 7 5800x performed better by 3% to 5%.

However, I7 10700k had a higher 1% Low Fps in almost every title which is also something that I find interesting.

To cut the story, you should take a look at the table yourself.

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x or Intel I7 10700k, 16GB DDR4 3200 MHZ, Nvidia RTX 3080 10GB, 1TB SSD Ryzen 7 5800x - AVERAGE FPS Ryzen 7 5800x - 1% LOW FPS Intel I7 10700k - AVERAGE FPS Intel I7 10700k - 1% LOW FPS
Assassin's Creed Odyssey (Very High settings - 1080p) 137 fps 94 fps 136 fps 92 fps
Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings - 1080p) 196 fps 96 fps 193 fps 108 fps
PUBG (Ultra settings - 1080p) 229 fps 172 fps 226 fps 175 fps
The Witcher 3 (Ultra settings - 1080p) 197 fps 145 fps 193 fps 139 fps
Watch Dogs Legion (Ultra settings - 1080p) 89 fps 73 fps 92 fps 71 fps
Project Cars (Ultra settings - 1080p) 134 fps 102 fps 131 fps 109 fps
Red Dead Redemption 2 (High settings - 1080p) 147 fps 113 fps 151 fps 115 fps
Mafia Definitive Edition (High settings - 1080p) 147 fps 108 fps 145 fps 103 fps
