Is GTX 1660 TI Still Good? – Everything You Need To Know
Topic Introduction
Today I have hands on one of the most popular mid-range graphics cards Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti and I will research it and test it in popular games.
Since the GPU prices are still very high and we don’t know when the market will recover, we should be more concentrated on mid-range GPUs than on newer more expensive graphics cards.
Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti is the strongest sibling of all three Gtx 1660s (Gtx 1660, Gtx 1660 Super, Gtx 1660 Ti). It has the largest amount of cores, and overall performance in games is stronger than on the other two cards.
Is GTX 1660 TI Still Good For Gaming? Short Topic Answer
The Nvidia gtx 1660 Ti is good for gaming even in 2022. This GPU is one of the strongest graphics cards in its price range and you can expect to run any game in 1080p Ultra at playable fps if you pair it with a decent CPU.
To make sure this GPU is good enough, I tested it and I have answers to most asked questions about this GPU. Stay with me and find out everything you should know as an owner of the GTX 1660 Ti or a potential buyer.

How Good Is GTX 1660 Ti for Gaming
The main question that a lot of people ask about this Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti is How well it performs in modern titles. Although this GPU is only 2 years old, games and their system requirements are changing. Two years ago, graphics cards with 4Gb were enough for most modern titles while now the 6Gb is recommended memory for entering the world of video games.
I will test this graphics card in both 1080p and 1440p and write the results in the table that you can find below.
How Good Is GTX 1660 Ti for 1080p Gaming?
Firstly, I will try this graphics card in its own field – 1080p.
To get the most out of it, and recreate the possible user experience, I used the Ryzen 5 3600, which is one of the best price-performance processors on the market right now. Gtx 1660 Ti and Ryzen 5 3600 are more than good for gaming in 1080p.
As you can see in the table below, every game that I tested passed 60 fps. Although I played all these games on High or Ultra settings, there were no problems at all.
The games that were closest to 60 fps are Gta 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Although they are older games, they are more demanding than most of the newer games when running on Ultra or Very High settings.
Take a look at the table so you can know what to expect from this GPU in your favorite game.
specs: Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti 6Gb, Ryzen 5 3600, 16Gb ddr4, 1Tb SSD - res:1080p | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |
---|---|---|
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings) | 88 fps | 50 fps |
Just Cause 4 (Very High settings) | 86 fps | 52 fps |
The Witcher 3 (Ultra settings) | 91 fps | 75 fps |
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (High & Ultra settings) | 69 fps | 48 fps |
Assassin's Creed Odyssey (Very High settings) | 58 fps | 47 fps |
Grand Theft Auto V (Very High settings) | 60 fps | 48 fps |
PUBG (Ultra settings) | 96 fps | 57 fps |
Fortnite (Epic settings) | 103 fps | 61 fps |
Apex Legends (High settings) | 115 fps | 88 fps |
Forza Horizon 4 (High & Ultra settings) | 119 fps | 91 fps |
How Good Is GTX 1660 Ti for 1440p Gaming?
The Gtx 1660 Ti isn’t primarily made for 1440p. But considering that this GPU has a strong chip and a reasonable amount of cores, I give it a try in some popular games in 1440p resolution (2k).
As you can see in the table below, this GPU performed perfectly well even on 2k resolution.
The only two games that didn’t achieve 60fps on average are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Need for Speed Heat.
The solution for the lower fps is obvious. Lowering down the settings in these two games would drastically increase the fps, but that isn’t necessary considering that anything above 30fps is playable.
Other games didn’t have any problems with Gtx 1660 Ti and Ryzen 5 3600 together.
Also, I need to mention that if you have a monitor with a better refresh rate than 60Hz, you can probably chase the higher fps by lowering the graphics settings.
Check the table below and see the fps in your favorite game!
specs: Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti 6Gb, Ryzen 5 3600, 16Gb ddr4, 1Tb SSD - res:1440p | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |
---|---|---|
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Mixed settings) | 59 fps | 37 fps |
Resident Evil 2 (High settings) | 85 fps | 61 fps |
Anthem (High settings) | 55 fps | 44 fps |
Far Cry New Dawn (Ultra settings) | 63 fps | 51 fps |
Battlefield V (High settings) | 77 fps | 62 fps |
Ghost Recon Breakpoint (High settings) | 72 fps | 57 fps |
Rainbow Six Siege (Very High settings) | 132 fps | 104 fps |
Rage 2 (Mixed settings) | 77 fps | 64 fps |
Metro Exodus (High settings) | 85 fps | 60 fps |
Need For speed Heat (Ultra settings) | 45 fps | 37 fps |
What Is The Best Processor To Pair With Nvidia GTX 1660 TI?
Choosing a good processor to pair together with your Graphics card is very important. A Mistake can cost you a bad experience, like rebuying a new motherboard and ram in order to change to another CPU, etc…
To prevent that, I researched what is the best processor for Gtx 1660 Ti and I have the results.
To get things easier for you, I will list one Intel and one Ryzen CPU, in case you prefer another brand. Both of these CPUs will work great with Gtx 1660 Ti and the difference won’t be that noticeable.
The Best Intel Processor for The Nvidia Gtx 1660 TI
The best Intel processor for Gtx 1660 Ti is Intel core I5 10400f. This GPU-CPU combination will work great for both 1080p and 1440p resolutions for the most modern games. While Intel i5 10400f has 6 cores and 12 threads, Gtx 1660 Ti has 6Gb memory, making them perfect.
The Best Ryzen Processor for The Nvidia GTX 1660 TI
The best Ryzen processor for Gtx 1660 Ti is Ryzen 5 3600. Both the Gtx 1660 Ti and Ryzen 5 3600 are some of the best in their price range, so when pairing them you can expect 60+ fps in both 1080p and 1440p on High settings. If you want to play at a higher fps, reducing the settings would help.
Is Upgrading To Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti Worth It?
When upgrading to a better graphics card, you need to make sure that you do it the right way. Since the GPU market is going crazy right now, you should expect many great deals. In fact, you should even buy a used GPU that will probably be also expensive or keep the GPU that you have now and wait until the prices drop.
If you already decided that you want to upgrade your GPU, have in mind that it’s not always good to upgrade to a next-gen GPU.
In this case, if you have a GPU with 4Gb of VRAM (Rx 570, Rx 580, Gtx 1650) going for Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti will give you a significant boost in your performance. But before deciding, have in mind that for 100 bucks more, you can afford the RTX 2060, which is better than Gtx 1660 Ti in most aspects.
Conclusion
Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti is still a great Graphics Card for a big majority of common users. If your goal is to play games in 1080p and 1440p on higher graphics settings then this is a great GPU for you. If you are looking for 4k gaming or something that can support a high refresh rate, you should definitely consider going for something a bit stronger.
