Should You Buy Nvidia RTX 3090? Short Topic Answer
If your goal is to have the strongest possible graphics card and you want to use it for more than casual gaming or programs, this graphics card is the right one for you. Otherwise, you can probably find a graphics card that will perform really well in all games and programs for a lot less money.
There are a lot of other factors that you should consider before making your decision, so keep reading and I will give try to help you as much as I can.
How Good Is Nvidia RTX 3090 For Gaming?
Since gaming is a popular category, This is the part of the post that is probably most interesting to all people reading. Although we know that Nvidia RTX 3090 is a beast when it comes to gaming, I will test it in the 3 most popular resolutions to see how good this GPU will perform myself.
In order to get the most out of Nvidia RTX 3090, I paired it with the Intel Core I9 10900k, which is more than good to support this GPU in testing.
Let’s jump into some gaming!
How Good Is Nvidia RTX 3090 For 1080p Gaming?
For the first benchmark, I will test Nvidia RTX 3090 in the most popular resolution out there – 1080p. Since Nvidia RTX 3090 is a beast, it’s most likely that a lot of people won’t even play games in 1080p, at least AAA, since they can get a much better experience in higher resolutions, and framerate won’t suffer that much.
However, there are still a lot of people that play in 1080p, so these results will be valuable for them.
As you can see in the table below, I tested Nvidia RTX 3090 in 5 different popular games, and in order to get the best possible results, as I said, I paired Intel i9 10900k with this GPU.
Have in mind that I9 10900k is also one of the best processors on the market, so the framerates that you see in the table will be increased.
If you look at the table, the framerates that I got were very high as expected. Every game felt smooth and fluid. The RTX 3090 is overkill for 1080p resolution, which means that you could enjoy 1080p with the cheaper graphics card, but with fewer fps for sure.
Take a look at the table yourself.
Specs: Intel Core I9 10900k, Nvidia RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |
---|---|---|
Doom Eternal (Ultra Nightmare settings - 1080p) | 421 fps | 229 fps |
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 135 fps | 93 fps |
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 161 fps | 127 fps |
ARK (Epic settings - 1080p) | 133 fps | 73 fps |
Fortnite (Competitive settings - 1080p) | 396 fps | 299 fps |
How Good Is Nvidia RTX 3090 For 1440p Gaming?
For The Second benchmark, I once again paired Nvidia RTX 3090 with Intel I9 10900k and tested them in 1440p resolution.
As in the last test, I used the same 5 popular video games and they were all running on the same graphics settings as in the 1080p benchmark. That way, you can see the difference between the resolutions and framerates that I got while playing games in them.
As you can see in the table below, Nvidia RTX 3090 absolutely destroyed these tests, and every game that I played except one averaged more than 100 fps, which is more than enough for a 1440p resolution.
Even gaming at a higher refresh rate is possible since you can easily get more than 144Hz or 240Hz in some games.
Take a look at the table below!
Specs: Intel Core I9 10900k, Nvidia RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |
---|---|---|
Doom Eternal (Ultra Nightmare settings - 1440p) | 284 fps | 184 fps |
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Ultra settings - 1440p) | 118 fps | 85 fps |
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings - 1440p) | 154 fps | 114 fps |
ARK (Epic settings - 1440p) | 94 fps | 64 fps |
Fortnite (Competitive settings - 1440p) | 385 fps | 226 fps |
How Good Is Nvidia RTX 3090 For 4k Gaming?
The last test is for the majority of people that are looking into this graphics card probably the most important one. Since this GPU definitely has more than enough power for 1080p and 2k, most users would like to enjoy gaming at 4k.
Although we know that this GPU has enough power and capacity for that, I wanted to see the result myself. once again, I paired Nvidia RTX 3090 with Intel Core I9 10900k, but in the 4k resolution, you don’t even need the CPU that strong, since the graphics card is doing most of the work itself.
As you can see in the table below and in the one for 2k benchmarks, there was an obvious drop in the performances between these two resolutions, but considering that every game that I tried to play was on either Ultra or Max graphics settings, these framerates are more than good.
If you take a look at the table, you can see that some games still have unbelievable high fps, which means that 144Hz gaming is possible if you have a suitable monitor.
This graphics card is more than good in 4k resolution and you will feel every bit of the gaming experience while playing any video game.
Specs: Intel Core I9 10900k, Nvidia RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |
---|---|---|
Doom Eternal (Ultra Nightmare settings - 4k) | 197 fps | 159 fps |
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Ultra settings - 4k) | 82 fps | 67 fps |
Far Cry 5 (Ultra settings - 4k) | 109 fps | 97 fps |
ARK (Epic settings - 4k) | 56 fps | 48 fps |
Fortnite (Competitive settings - 4k) | 340 fps | 191 fps |
