How Good Is AMD RX 6800 XT For Gaming?
AMD RX 6800 XT is a very powerful graphics card when it comes to gaming itself. After a long time, AMD released a graphics card that has the capability to compete with stronger RTX cards. With the right processor, this GPU can run every game in every resolution, and your experience won’t suffer.
Keep Reading and you will see all the tests that I did with this GPU. You will have a clear image of how good this GPU is actually.
How Good Is AMD RX 6800 XT For Gaming in 1080p?
For the first benchmark, I tested AMD RX 6800 XT in 1080p resolution. Although most will play AAA games in higher resolutions with this graphics card, there are a lot of people playing in 1080p since they either don’t have monitor that support the higher resolution or they just want to get the maximum fps possible.
In order to get the most out of RX 6800 XT, I paired it with an AMD processor once again – Ryzen 7 5800x. This CPU is more than good to support RX 6800 XT, especially at higher resolutions.
As you can see in the table below, I tested these two together in 5 different popular video games. In every game, the graphics settings were on Ultra or Epic, since I wanted to load the graphics card as much as possible.
That way, we will see the real image of how good Rx 6800 XT is in gaming.
If you take a closer look at the table, you will see that 4 out of 5 games averaged well above 100 fps, which is really amazing. That tells us that gaming at a higher refresh rate is more than possible if you have a suitable monitor.
You can even get much better framerates if you lower the settings to very High or just High.
To shorten the story, take a look at the table yourself.
Specs: AMD RX 6800 XT, AMD Ryzen 7 5800x, 16GB DDR4 3600 MHz, 1TB SSD | AVERAGE FPS | 1% LOW FPS |
---|---|---|
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 126 fps | 88 fps |
Battlefield 5 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 176 fps | 92 fps |
The Division 2 (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 155 fps | 95 fps |
Watch Dogs Legion (Ultra settings - 1080p) | 93 fps | 64 fps |
Fortnite (Epic settings - 1080p) | 181 fps | 100 fps |
How Good Is AMD RX 6800 XT For Gaming in 1440p?
The second benchmark that I did with AMD RX 6800 XT was in 1440p resolution. The 1440p or 2k is the resolution that is, as time passes, more and more people decide to play constantly because of the right mixture of video quality and performances you are getting.
Once again, I paired the AMD RX 6800 XT with the Ryzen 7 5800x as support and I tested them in the same 5 video games on the same graphics settings. That way, you will be able to clearly see the difference in the performance between the resolutions.
If you take a look at the table below, you will see that Once again results that I got were more than good considering that every game was on Max settings. This time 4 out of 5 games averaged near or above 100 fps, which tells us that gaming in 1440p with RX 6800 XT is more than enjoyable.
Every game felt smooth and gameplay was fluid. Definitely a great experience.

How Good Is AMD RX 6800 XT For Gaming in 4k?
The last benchmark is the one that most people are reading this post for – 4k. Since on paper, this GPU has enough power to run video games at 4k, I wanted to make sure that gameplay would be a good experience when the graphics settings are increased.
Although the processor is not that important in 4k resolution because most of the work is done by the graphics card, I paired AMD RX 6800 XT once again with the Ryzen 7 5800x. Have in mind that even much worse processors can be used for 4k gaming if you have a strong graphics card.
As you can see in the table below, the games and graphics preset weren’t changed, so you can see the difference between the resolutions.
The results of the tests really surprised me. I knew that this graphics card is capable of gaming in 4k but I didn’t know that fps drop would be this low from 2k to 4k resolution. Almost every game averaged more than 60 fps, and some of them were closer to 100 fps.
That tells us that AMD did a very good job with this graphics card and that they are going in the right direction. Every game felt smooth and the gameplay looked beautiful. Definitely a great experience.
Take a look at the table yourself.
