Top 5 Best Graphics cards for Intel i7 6700k

The Brilliant Skylake Intel i7 6700k is a processor that in 2023 is now approaching 8 years old after it was released in late 2015, Its still a great processor so to get the most out of it on your budget, you need to pair it with a great graphics card.

Since the GPU market is huge with multiple options, and the prices are still incredibly high, I have made my detailed list of the Top 5 Best graphics cards for this processor and have tested each one showing FPS you can expect in some of the most common popular games.

Lets start by revealing my Top 5 then we will go into more detail about each one below.

TOP graphics cards for Intel i7 6700k IN 2023

1. Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Super

The RTX 2070 Super is the first graphics card on my list. Although it’s expensive at the moment, this GPU gives the user a great gaming experience in higher resolutions.

When the Intel i7 6700k is paired with the RTX 2070 Super you will definitely get the most out of your CPU. In 1080p where the processor has harder work to do, the Intel i7 6700k may struggle to follow the RTX 2070 Super. In 2k and 4k, this CPU will work just fine considering that the performance in these games mostly depends on a GPU.

What To Expect When You Pair Intel i7 6700k And RTX 2070 Super?

With Intel i7 6700k and RTX 2070 Super paired together, you can expect to play any game in 1080p easily. Although Intel i7 6700k is an older CPU, you won’t have problems in playing games in higher resolutions as well.

If your goal is to play at higher resolutions, lowering the graphics settings and increasing the resolution up to 2k or 4k would still be a solid gaming experience.

For those of you who have 144HZ or basically anything better than 60HZ, you can definitely chase higher fps with this GPU-CPU combo on Medium-High settings in 1080p

Intel i7 6700k And RTX 2070 Super In Popular Games

I tested the RTX 2070 Super and Intel i7 6700k in 5 games and I have the results.

As you can see in the table below, most games are either on the highest possible settings or somewhere close to that. I chose the games that are more demanding and these two performed really well.

Although it is an old game, GTA 5 is still one of the most demanding on Very High settings even in 1080p.

In GTA 5, the Intel i7 6700k and Rtx 2070 Super had 82 fps on Average, which is definitely more than playable for most people. Reducing the settings to medium would most likely give you 100+ fps.

Also, I tested this configuration in games like RDR 2, AC Valhalla, and in both of them I got more than 60 fps even on High and Very High graphics settings.

2. Asus ROG Strix RTX 2060 6Gb

The RTX 2060 is the second GPU on my list. There are a few reasons for that, but let’s first check some basic info about these two together.

The Intel i7 6700k and RTX 2060 will be a great CPU-GPU combo considering that both are great for 1080p. Although the i7 6700k has only 4 cores, that is still enough for most games when paired with a great GPU like RTX 2060. With 6GB, RTX 2060 is an entry-level card for High-End gaming.

What To Expect When You Pair Intel I7 6700k And RTX 2060?

Intel i7 6700k and RTX 2060 are a perfect combination for 1080p gaming with the potential for even higher resolutions. In 1080p, you can expect these two to run any game in at least 60+ fps un High settings. Reducing the settings will increase your fps if you want to play on monitors with higher refresh rates.

Although the RTX 2060 is the so-called 1080p king, it can play most modern games even in higher resolutions. To achieve great fps in 2k and 4k, you would most likely need to play with in-game graphics settings.

If you are happy with 1080p and 60HZ, Intel i7 6700k and RTX 2060 would be nice together. You can see that in the table below, where I tested these two in 5 popular games.

In order to see how these two perform together, I tested them in 5 different games in 1080p resolution and I have results.

As you can see in the table below, RTX 2060 and overclocked I7 6700 k on 4.7 GHz go over 60 fps in every game I tested.

Although the Overclock gives this processor a performance boost, I7 6700k would still mage to go past 60 fps with RTX 2060 easily.

The best example of how good this CPU-GPU combo is fps in Cyberpunk 2077. This game was released last year and it’s still an unoptimized game even for the better components. Intel i7 6700k and RTX 2060 managed to get 72 fps on Average on High settings, which is pretty impressive for me.

In the table below, you can see that fps is great in other games too.

3. EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6Gb

The third place on my list is taken by Nvidia Gtx 1660 Ti, one of the best mid-range graphics cards on the market. Although this GPU is still expensive as all other ones, I cant wait for GPU prices to drop to see how good of a deal would this GPU actually be.

Intel i7 6700k and Gtx 1660 Ti will provide you with a solid 1080p experience without a doubt. Although this CPU isn’t the best one to get the most out of GTX 1660 Ti, they will still be a great together

What To Expect When You Pair Intel Core I7 6700k And Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti?

Intel I7 6700k and Gtx 1660 Ti are good GPU-CPU combo. You can expect to play any game in 1080p on reasonable fps. Have in mind that the i7 6700k is 4 cores processor and it may struggle in some newest games, but in most cases, it will still be a great solution when paired with GTX 1660 Ti.

The Intel i7 6700k and Gtx 1660 Ti would be more than enough for both 60Hz and 75Hz monitors, but playing on the higher refresh rate can be challenging.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s possible in most games, but for some, you would need to play with your graphics settings to achieve the fps that you want.

To make sure that they are great together, I run some tests in 5 popular games and I have results in the table below!

Unlike tests for the first two graphics cards, this time I tried Intel i7 6700k with the Base Clock.

The fps in Rocket League and Apex Legends are good as I expected. Although The Witcher 3 is a demanding game, i7 6700k and Gtx 1660 Ti performed really well and passed the 60fps line even on Ultra settings.

4. MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

The Nvidia Gtx 1060 ranked 4th place on my list deservedly. This graphics card is still a great mid-range GPU even 5 years after the release date.

To make things even better, these two components were released over a period of one year, so they are better optimized one for another.

What To Expect When You Pair Intel Core I7 6700k And Nvidia GTX 1060 6Gb?

The Intel i7 6700k and Gtx 1060 are a great combination if you are looking for something that can run most of the games in 1080p easily. In order to get the most fps with these two in some more demanding games, you will need to sacrifice a few graphics details.

Have in mind that these two will be a perfect solution for 1080p and 60Hz. In order to play on higher refresh rate monitors, you would need to reduce some graphics settings but I think that is totally possible.

As with the previous graphics card, I tested this processor on the base clock.

The results are quite good for configuration that is more than 5 years old.

The only time fps wasn’t above 60 fps was when I tested it on Ultra settings in both Battlefield 5 and Forza Horizon 4. Reducing the settings to High or Medium would increase the fps well above 60 fps easily.

In CSGO and Fortnite, this CPU-GPU combination with 16Gb RAM got very good fps.

Although I used the Medium settings in Fortnite, even on Epic fps would be over 80 for sure.

5. XFX GTS XXX Edition RX 580 4GB

Last but not least graphics card on my list is AMD Radeon Rx 580 4Gb.

Although the competition in this price range is high, The reason why I picked Rx 580 4Gb over another GPU is that this GPU gives you the perfect performance for the price you pay (at least when prices drop to a normal level).

What To Expect When You Pair Intel i7 6700k And AMD RX 580 4Gb?

The Intel i7 6700k and Rx 580 are two components that you should definitely look after using together if your main goal is 1080p gaming in 60Hz. Everything better than that can be quite challenging for these two.

If you aren’t a competitive gamer and all you want is casual gaming in 60 fps, this CPU and GPU combination will be perfect for you. Of course, you will get much better fps in games that aren’t that demanding, but in the newer games, you may feel the age of your GPU and CPU.

Intel Core I7 6700k And AMD RX 580 4Gb In Popular Games

As you can see in the table below, even in Red Dead Redemption 2 this configuration goes past 60 fps.

Considering that these benchmarks were done with Base Clock i7 6700k, you can probably expect a few more fps if you overclock it.

Overall experience is great, and reducing some graphics details would be the best way of getting better fps.
